AMS Soil Auger Systems

AMS soil augers are commonly used for obtaining disturbed samples at or near the surface and for boring to depths where samples may be obtained with a soil sampler or soil core sampler. AMS augers are available in all stainless steel for EPA testing or carbon steel bits with stainless steel cylinders for general soil sampling and augering. Perfect for augering shallow depths, AMS soil augers can also auger deeper depths and are generally limited by only the time and muscle of the user. In fact, users have recorded going over 100 ft using the AMS soil auger in a variety of soil conditions!

Auger Standard Features:
• Most models are available with a threaded or a Quick
Connect connection.
• A rounded bail for added torque resistance.
• Stainless steel cylinder for easier decontamination.
• Specially formed bits that dig and cut through the soil
at the same time for easy penetration.
• Cut hole up to 1/4” larger than the cylinder to minimize
drag.
• Most auger models are available in stainless steel (SST) for environmentally critical
sampling and easier decontamination.
• Powered options are also available.

Soil Auger Applications:
Select the most suitable auger for the soil type and attach it to an extension with a cross
handle. The auger head drills into the ground as the handle is turned in a clockwise rotation,
to prevent separation of auger head from the extension and handle. Soil is forced
into and retained in the auger to be brought to the surface and emptied. Carefully replace
the auger in the hole and repeat the process until the desired depth is reached. Auger
heads can be changed as different soil types are encountered. After advancing the auger
the length of the cylinder remove, empty and reinsert it into the hole to collect the next
sample. Add extensions as necessary. The augers may be used to collect disturbed soil
samples or to gain access to sampling points at specific depths.

Custom Build Your
Own Augering System:

Custom build your own auger system using compatible AMS auger heads, cross handles, extensions and adapters (if needed). To customize your system choose the most appropriate auger head and extensions for your particular needs, then choose your preferred handle. AMS adapters may also be neccessary if you need to combine 5/8” thread, Quick Connect or Signature Series components. (For more information, see AMS Connection Types below).

Or Use One of Our
Pre-Built Augering Systems:

We have taken out the guesswork and brought together many of our most popular components to built them into a variety of complete auger systems. AMS sampling kits meet a variety of needs and many come with either a lightweight or a heavy-duty carying case to make them very portable. Kits are ideal for anyone looking to get a full system quickly and easily.

AMS Connection Types
AMS augers, extensions and cross handles are available in the following connection types

Threaded Connection
The AMS threaded connection is reliable and simple to use. It is available in a 5/8” for the majority of soil auger diameters, and a 3/4” for soil augers with diameters of 6” and 7”.

Quick Connections

Quick Connect
Connection

AMS Quick Connect allows augers, cross handles and extensions to connect and disconnect faster than the AMS threaded connections. It also allows rotation in both directions.

Signiture Connections

Signature Series
Connection

This connection simply enhanced the already trusted AMS threaded onnection. It has a heavier thread design, and allows for faster connection speed without risk of galling.

AMS Extensions
